AH—I can’t even begin to tell you all how excited I am to share this amazing FREEBIE with you today…
Because, hey, I’m a gal who loves to paint… and, assuming you’re reading this, you’re probably a fellow artist who loves to paint, too. Safe to say?
So, to celebrate the beautiful art of painting… I have created this amazing painter’s journal/workbook for you to download right here, right now. And, I’m sure I’ve already mentioned this… but, it’s FREE, y’all!
All you have to do to get the journal? Enter a name and e-mail address that we can send it to!
Really, that’s how easy it is. And don’t worry–I will never share your information with anyone else, and there are no string attached in getting your free artists’ workbook. I take everyone’s online privacy very seriously, and I just believe sharing this workbook through e-mail is the best way to get it to you securely.
Now, here’s some “deets” on the painting journal–just in case you want to hear more before you sign up to download it!
About the Free Painting Journal
In this free painter’s workbook (which I’ve titled “My Painting Journal” for you!), you’ll find over 20 printable pages (more on that in a second), including pages on…
- How to mix paint colors
- Paint-by-number exercises
- A painter’s quiz
- How to properly create shapes with your paintbrush
- How to blend paint colors
- How to make brushstrokes
- Blank “coloring” pages
Each page in the workbook is interactive, meaning there are exercises that you can try time and time again. All you need to do is gather some simple paints and brushes, and then go to town!

How to Best Use This Journal
Now, to get started painting with this workbook, you actually have two options: either print the entire workbook or, if you don’t have a printer available, save the downloadable PDF file to your device and try the exercises on your own paper.
Printing the Journal
I recommend printing this journal file in its entirety, if you can. It’s also best to print the document in full color, but printing in black and white is not going really going to change things (you’ll spruce it up with your colorful paints, anyway!).
After signing up to get this free journal sent to your e-mail, use the download link sent to you to download the PDF file for the journal, and then print that file from there. I also include some tips on how to do this (if you’re not super tech-savvy, because I get it!) in the e-mail with the download link.
I also recommend printing the journal on cardstock or heavy-duty printer paper, if you can. This is because our paints can saturate regular copy paper pretty easily, but, again, if you only have lightweight printer paper available, don’t let that stop you from printing and using the journal!
The journal is designed to be used with acrylic or crafter’s paints, which are pretty solid paints, so they shouldn’t saturate regular printer paper too badly. Just experiment with your paints on whatever paper you’ve got, and don’t forget that this journal is just a practice journal–it doesn’t have to look “professional” by any means!
Painting without a Printer
Now, if you don’t have a printer available, don’t fret! You can also use this journal by simply downloading the PDF file sent to your e-mail, and then following along with each practice exercise on your own blank papers. You can also use cardstock, regular copy paper, or something like artist’s watercolor or canvas paper–just whatever you’ve got.
Basically, you may need to get creative with things if you don’t have a printer. But, of course, that’s why you’re a painter–you’re capable of being creative!
When You’re Done with the Journal…
Once you’re finished with this journal… well, you know, you can always print it again and again and try the many exercises as much as you’d like!
And, if you’d like to expand your painting journey even further… I’d invite you to check out my brand-new platform built for learning artists, called “Canvas Academy”!
Canvas Academy is your tool for honing your painting technique, whether you’re a beginning artist or an experienced painter. At Canvas Academy, you’ll find tons of painting classes and courses that will guide you through painting beautiful pictures—from still-lifes, portraits, and landscapes to floral scenes, hand-crafted greeting cards, and even some snapshots from your favorite movies!

I, Kari Lynn M., actually teach all of the painting classes over on Canvas Academy, and it just makes me so happy to share this knowledge with you all in such a fun way.
