About the 7 Painting Challenges

A mix of “object” and “landscape” painting challenges are included in this book, and no two challenges are alike.

Challenges Include…

  1. A coneflower
  2. A palm tree sunset
  3. A bright sunflower
  4. An ocean beach with paw prints in the sand

5. A mountainous sky view with soaring birds
6. A pink and red rose
7. A blue and violet ombre-winged butterfly with lavender petals

What Equipment Do I Need for the Challenges?

You’ll need just a few key materials to get started on your painting challenge journey, including…

  • Paints in colors…
    • Red
    • Blue
    • Yellow
    • White
    • Black, Gray, or Raw Umber
  • At least one small/medium roundhead paintbrush
  • Something to mix paints with (such as a paint spatula, crafter’s or popsicle sticks, or even a butterknife)
  • Something to mix paints on (like a palette or a paper plate)
  • 7 painting surfaces (like canvas, cardstock papers, or watercolor papers)
  • Optional: One flathead paintbrush

To complete each painting challenge, I recommend using acrylic paints (especially if you are a beginner), but you can certainly try them with watercolors, too, if you’d like.

And, if you don’t have any acrylic paints on-hand, that’s totally fine, because, actually, most crafter’s paints and house paints are acrylic-based, and you can use those, too! I’ve also heard that tempera paints (egg-based paints) work similar to acrylics, too, so you can substitute with those if you’d like. These are typically used as “poster paints”, like what you might have once used for school projects and such (that is, if you’ve ever had to made a science fair board in your lifetime!).

The bottom line is that you shouldn’t feel obligated to go out and buy yourself a ton of painting supplies to complete this challenge, guys—whatever you have on-hand is, in most cases, perfectly fine!

Other FAQs

Because, I get it, painting is hard—so, here, I want to answer some frequently asked questions for ya!

Do I need prior painting experience to complete the 7-day challenge?

No prior painting experience is needed to try your hand at this painting challenge—seriously! All you’ll need are the painting materials listed above, plus access to the painting challenge workbook.

This painting challenge is actually not very “challenging” at all—I’ve only named it that because it’s meant to challenge you to make a painting every day for a week. All of the painting themselves are extremely beginner-friendly, and I designed them that way to ensure no one gets frustrated while trying to paint along with the tutorials!

Can I print the painting challenge workbook?

You can certainly print this workbook, if you’d like! However, printing is not really necessary since each painting should be painted on your own canvases or painting-quality papers, not directly on the workbook pages.

I’d keep in mind, too, that the book contains a lot of full-color pictures, and printing them may take quite a lot of printer ink. Plus, some printers may not be able to print high-quality versions of every photo, so I’d recommend referencing the digital file for the best results.

What’s the best way to improve my painting techniques after completing the 7-day challenge?

Once you’ve fully finished the 7-day painting challenge, give yourself a huge congratulations! Sticking to anything for a full week can be difficult, and, even if you took longer to complete each challenge, you should feel proud of yourself for attempting all of that painting.

While you can definitely try the painting challenge over and over again (maybe try all 7 days with acrylic paints, then try all over again with watercolor paints), taking online painting classes can really help you get to the next level.
