Why Readers (and Authors) Love “hoopla”

It’s all a bunch of hoopla. Hoopla, hoopla, hoopla. (Yes, that’s a SpongeBob circa 2002 reference, if anyone else shares that type of nostalgia…)

Or, at least, that’s what everyone’s new favorite reading platform, hoopla, is all about. Except for it’s not just a bunch of hoopla, and it’s actually a lot of free reading and listening content. And, yes, you all heard that right–free.

Now, as an indie author and a fellow reader, I just want to let you all know why you should be loving hoopla as much as I do. And, at the end of this post, I’ll let you in on how you can access it, too (hint: check through your local library!).

So… What Is “hoopla”?

Simply put, hoopla is a website and app that allows users to read ebooks and magazines, listen to audiobooks and music, and even watch TV shows and movies that are in the hoopla digital library collection. You can start reading, listening, and watching on any device, and then you can continue to stream content on any other device since everything syncs automatically.

Even more simply put, hoopla is a digital library that puts popular content right in your hands at no cost to you. Yep–amazing, isn’t it?

Why Everyone Loves hoopla

Now, if you’re not a big reader, there’s still plenty to enjoy over on hoopla, including music, movies, and more. And, if you are big on reading… here’s just a few reasons why you will love this platform:

  • Over 1.5 billion titles offered (and counting!)
  • Access to eBooks, audiobooks, music albums, movies, TV programs, comix, and more for free
  • Content available in 115+ languages
  • Downloadable content available to access offline
  • Popular titles are always available to check-out because hoopla does not limit the number of copies that can be checked-out

And, here’s what’s even better… if you’re a reader who loves supporting indie authors, hoopla is the perfect platform for you!

That’s because hoopla partners with not just big publishing companies to offer digital content, but hoopla also partners with indie authors and other content makers—and that’s something not very many other online platforms do. This makes it so easy for readers like you to support independent authors at no extra cost to you—and isn’t that something we can all get behind?

As an indie author myself, I rave about hoopla all the time because it gives me the chance to connect with readers globally. In fact, all of my independently-published novels and audiobooks are now available on hoopla, just like some of these…

All of my audiobooks available on hoopla are self-narrated, too, as are plenty of the indie audiobooks on the site, which is another big plus for many readers.

So… How Can I Get on hoopla?

hoopla is only offered through partnerships with libraries, so the best place to start when you want to get in on all the “hoopla” is to check with your local library. If your library offers hoopla, then that’s great! If it is not offered, though, you can always let your library staff know about hoopla and what it offers—many libraries are signing up to join the hoopla network every day, so it may be offered to you soon.

If your preferred local library does not offer hoopla, you can still get hoopla by getting a library card from another library that does offer hoopla. To find a library near you that offers hoopla access, check through the hoopla registration page. Most libraries allow patrons to sign up for a library card for a small fee if they are not “local” to that library, so you can always join a library outside of your area to get hoopla.

And, if you aren’t able to access hoopla at all at this time–don’t worry! There are still tons of other ways to read for free, and I’ll even offer you one way right here, right now.

Because you can actually get a copy of this free YA fiction ebook and audiobook–whether you’re a hoopla user or not! Just click the link below, enter your email address on the next page, and you’ll get it sent right to your email inbox with no strings attached.

“‘What Now, Emma Lenford?’ by Kari Lynn M. is an absolute gem for fans of young adult stories filled with humor and misadventure! Following the streak of “bad luck” that constantly finds the main character, Emma Lenford, every chapter throws her into yet another hilarious and outrageous situation.
