Welcome, painters of all ages.

Today, we share with you… a “butterfly landscape” painting class! And, the best part is that it’s completely family-friendly, so even the youngest of artists can join in.

What makes this class special is that I, Kari Lynn M. (a professional artist), actually filmed this class with the help of my young niece, Madeline. Plus, she helped design the little “landscape” that we create, and she helps instruct all of our young viewers during the full class.

Kid-Friendly Butterfly Landscape Painting Class

This painting class is so fun, and you will learn how to make your own butterfly landscape from scratch. We go over a drawing portion of class plus a color mixing portion and actual painting portion.

We practice tons of useful skills that painters of all ages can learn, from what the color wheel is to how you can create texture with your paints on the page. Plus, there are many chances for you (and any young artists with you) to pick and choose what colors should go where in your own painting.

Materials Needed for the Class

To follow along with us in class, make sure you have some simple painting materials on-hand, like…

• Acrylic (or crafting) paints in red, yellow, blue, white, and black
• At least one paintbrush (any size or shape)
• A mixing palette for paints (or something like a paper plate works well, too)
• A paint mixing tool (such as a spatula, craft/popsicle sticks, or even the end of another paint brush)
• A water cup (for brush cleaning)

We create our paintings on canvas paper in the video, but you can, of course, use watercolor paper, construction paper, or even stretched canvas.
