Tour 1940s Morse Zig Zag Sewing Machine | RARE Vintage Blue Model

I swear, this sewing machine is going to go viral… at least, perhaps, as viral as a vintage sewing machine can go, right?

But, really, I want to welcome you, dear reader (whether you’re a fellow sewer or not!) to a lovely little video I filmed recently, just sharing my own vintage sewing machine, which I use to sew on every day. I’ve had this machine in my family for over 80 years, and I still use it to this day to make everything from my own clothing to accessories, bags, and more for my Etsy shop!

The sewing machine itself is a Morse Zig Zag model in blue (which is quite rare, I think!) from the 1940s era. Sometimes, it’s also referred to as the “Model MZZ”. It’s a gorgeous machine in mint condition, and it’s been through decade after decade of hard work.

Check out the video below to hear more about this beautiful vintage machine, get a good “tour” of it, and see it in action.

Vlog: The Story Behind My Vintage Blue Sewing Machine

As mentioned in the video, this sewing machine has been a bit of a family heirloom for me, as it was used by both my maternal and paternal grandmothers before it was passed down to me and my sisters (I’ll be honest, though, I totally snatched it from them—but that’s okay because they don’t like sewing!). It’s a very basic machine, so I also substitute some work with my second machine, which is my mother’s 1980s-era Kenmore (also shown in the video), to do bobbin threading and the making of buttonholes.

While this isn’t the first machine I learned to sew on, it’s been my main use for sewing for so long that it just feels like home to me. All sewers know that you get to know your machine inside and out after a while, and this one is no different! I always know how it’s supposed to sound—and, when it doesn’t, I’ve gotten to know what part of the machine is acting up a little (usually, it’s just a couple of small, manual adjustments I need to make with the needle).

Again, I use this machine for creating all of my hand-sewn Etsy products, which you can certainly see below.

Well, that’s all I have to share with you all today. Let me know in comments below, though, if you would like to see more of my vintage sewing machine, or if you have an idea for a future “behind the scenes” sort of video featuring my machine!

Until next time…

–Kari
