I am very confused.

Okay, first off, let me just… say a disclaimer, I guess. And no, this isn’t about to turn into a political post or anything, so you can stay relaxed.

I just want to say, though, that I have nothing against fanfiction… just, in general. Or erotica. Or erotic fanfiction… They might not be genres that I really ever write or read, but I have no problem with them, like, existing.

What I stumbled across today on Wattpad, though… eek.

Alright, I’ll just be upfront with what happened. First, someone followed my Wattpad profile. Then, I checked out their page to possibly follow them back. I scrolled down to look at their stories and work, then… and I saw it.

…Zootopia fanfiction…???

You know, like, for that kids’ movie that came out a while ago… I think.

And, actually, it wasn’t just any ol’ type of fanfiction… the title specified that it was one shots.

You know, like… ‘*wink wink* and *nudge nudge*’… one shots.

I’m sorry, but I had to laugh. And then I had to go on and read it.

And… okay, it wasn’t that bad. But that’s because it was written with really bad grammar (so I skimmed it really fast) and was only two pages long and nothing dirty happened. But then I got curious… and I probably shouldn’t have.

So, after that, I decided to do a Wattpad search for similar stories (if you want specifics, I just typed in ‘zootopia’). And I found a whole slew of ’em.

And some of these stories have thousands of votes and comments on them! More people are reading them than even consider looking at the books I write.

On top of that, I skimmed the first chapters of the top few… and, let me tell ya, the writing style and editing on most of them is not that great. To put it lightly… well, they’re honestly terrible.

Yet there’s so many of these stories and there’s so many getting high recognition and everything… but, um, why?

And that’s what I’m confused about.

Most of these stories have… you know, dirty parts to them (or it’s implied that they do; I didn’t really read that many of them to know) and… well, it’s supposed to be based on a cute kids’ movie! So, why… is this a thing?

A lot of them sound like they’re written by kids… and maybe they are, I don’t know, but they also don’t really sound written for kids. I mean, I really hope kids aren’t wandering around on Wattpad looking for sexy short stories about their favorite cartoon characters…

And, also, I did some further research, and there’s the same thing going on with a lot of other animated shows and movies and stuff, too, so this isn’t just a… one time thing or anything.

Honestly, though… I don’t get it. I’m just confused.

This is almost as bad as the whole ‘bad boy’ situation is to me right now. And that says a lot.

And… well, I have nothing else to say about it. At least, not right now.

Carry on with your day, now, though… and I’ll try to forget the fact that my writing is less popular than children’s one shot fanfics.
