Happy Wednesday everybody!

Today, I’ve got another grand song/ story analysis for you… it’s… Mr. Brightside by The Killers!!!

I’m pumped because I know literally all of the words and I could even type all the lyrics out myself… but I won’t do that because then I won’t feel like typing anymore afterwards.

Anyway, let’s dive right in. Lyrics first; analysis after!

(Finally getting up for the day… or something like that, and he’s doing JUST fine… not great, but not bad either, probably.)

(Pretty much explains itself, doesn’t it?)

(Now I’m trying to go to sleep, alone, while she’s with some other guy somewhere.)

And it’s all in my head

(Now I can’t sleep because I’m imagining them doing all of this together.)

But she’s touching his chest

Now, letting me go

(They’re about to hook up and she’s leaving me in the dust.)

Jealousy, turning saints into the sea

Choking on your alibis

(Basically… being jealous causes everything else to roll downhill.)

Okay, now some more thoughts…

I’ve heard a lot of different views from people turning the story of these lyrics into different directions… but, from my point of view, I think it’s just a song about a guy with a terrible girlfriend that cheats on him all the time. I mean… he can’t stop thinking about a specific girl with some other guy, he says she’s letting him go… unless she broke up with him and now he’s jealous of whoever she’s with next (jealously is in the song). I guess it also could be about a guy that just has a major crush on this girl who’s with someone else…

Okay, I wanna change what I originally said. It can be taken a lot of different ways, but, at the heart of it, it’s still a song about a guy who’s jealous… and probably jealous of whoever else is with this girl. Most importantly, though, he realizes at the end of the day that he shouldn’t care because there are better things waiting for him… and he’s Mr. Brightside!!!

Now there’s a lesson to take from this.
