My new mantra

And let’s make it yours, too.

So, anybody here know what a “mantra” is? I still don’t even know the standard definition; I’ve just always had to go off the context clues I hear in yoga instructional videos and inspirational speeches. Really, even mentioning where I’ve heard the word should be context clues enough.

Either way, though, here is the official Merriam-Webster definition of “mantra”…

a mystical formula of invocation (see INVOCATION sense 2) or incantation (as in Hinduism)

Yeah, maybe we should just stick to context clues…

Anyway, here’s this new mantra that I came up by myself, for… well, myself, but now for y’all, too!

Grow professionally every day.

Now, how does that sound?

I’ve just been feeling very career-driven lately. And I’ve realized that, in order to grow in any part of your life, you need to commit to it everyday. You can’t put something off for days, because then you risk getting lazy and putting it off for a month, which then we all know can turn into years, and then years kind of turn into forever because we forget about it and never get back to whatever it is. And, of course, everything needs and takes practice. You won’t get better at shooting hoops if you wait to try until game day. And a plant won’t grow if you don’t give it water. You will literally die if you don’t eat.

Mantras upon mantras right there.

I’ve written this “mantra” on the big, crusty old white board in my bedroom, and I make an effort to read it… well, every day. I don’t know if it’s helped me stay on track with doing at least the most minimal professional work every day or not, but it reminds me that I need to put in the effort to, so I can, in turn, reach my goals. And, as we all know, I’ve got a lot of those.

This is me being inspirational. You should check out my yoga youtube channel (I don’t grow that every day. It’s been on hold for the past 21 years).

Let’s grow professionally today together.
