Song… or poem???

Hey homedogs, it’s me… again!

So, I’ve had this idea for this… mini-game type of thing, and I think today is the day I guess I’ll debut it.

Who’s ready to play your new favorite game… song… or poem???”

So, here’s how it works.

I’ll write out a line or two of verse, and then you all have to guess if those lines are actually originally from a song… or a poem. The fun of it comes from the fact that it’s virtually impossible to tell a song lyric from a line of poetry on paper (or computer screen), so you either have to actually recognize the words or just take a super lucky guess.

And don’t read ahead before you guess… cheater-pants.

Now… let’s get started!

First challenge.

Why are we so blind to see
That the ones we hurt are you and me?

Song… or poem???

(Tick-tock, tick-tock…)

The answer is…

Specifically, a rap song- Gangsta’s Paradise by Coolio.

Now, challenge number two.

You were my sun, you were my earth
But you didn’t know all the ways I loved you

Song… or poem?

The answer… again, song; it’s the opening lines to Cry Me a River by Justin Timberlake.

Let’s make number three a little easier.

There is another Loneliness
That many die without

Song or poem???

It is… poem. (Emily Dickinson’s There is another Loneliness…)

Number four.

If I asked you for good news
Would you smile and turn away?
It’s like a bad dream
That is too afraid to wake.

Song… or poem…?

Youth by Foxes to be precise.

Now, five.

When you see me walking, stumbling,
Don’t study and get it wrong.
‘Cause tired don’t mean lazy
And every goodbye ain’t gone.

Song or poem???

Poem; On Aging by Maya Angelou.

On to… six!

Everyday I sit and ask myself
How did love slip away?

Song… or poem?

This one is… a… song!

(Michael Jackson, of course- You Are Not Alone.)

Seven, here we go…

she’ll dream she’s dead
or else she’ll dream she’s back.

Is that a song or a poem?

The answer is…

Poem; The House by Anne Sexton.

Now, THE final challenge…

For you are the stars to me,
You are the light I follow.

That one was part of See You Again by Carrie Underwood.

Now, wasn’t that fun?

Well… it was for me, haha.

Anyway, I hope y’all enjoyed this fun lil’ break in your day! It’s just something that I thought would be a good idea to test out, and I think it went pretty well, so I may probably do more of these challenges in the future. It also just goes to show how similar songs and poems really are when you read them on a page side-by-side.

How high was your score???
