Survey of the day: what’s your history “thing” ?

Hey, y’all!

Now, today, I’ve got a question for you… “What’s your history ‘thing’?”

Everyone’s got one. Literally, everyone… even you do and you probably don’t even realize it.

What is a history “thing”, though, you ask?

Well, I mean, everybody has one special event or period in history that they’re interested in. And, really, not just interested in, I mean… more like obsessed with.

Again, everyone has one. Don’t be shy.

This history “thing” could be anything to do with World Wars to the period of ancient Egypt to the discography of Snoop Dogg from 1990 to 2003.

Okay, maybe not that last one.

But everyone has a history “thing”, and I wanna know yours!

There are only two rules to what you can identify as your history “thing”, though, okay?

Number 1… be as specific as possible. I mean, I love analyzing the influence of Asian imperialism on the cultures of the world from 1850 to 1945 as much as the next guy, but I think analyzing the influence of Asian imperialism on the cultures of the world from 1850 to 1876 is where it’s really at.

Rule number 2… your history “thing” cannot be the Holocaust. Because, otherwise, everyone’s history “thing” would be the Holocaust.

Now, I guess you’re gonna throw this at me next… “Yo, Kari, what’s your history ‘thing’?”

Well, my history “thing” is, vaguely, the Russian Revolution. More specifically, the beginning of it, the rise and fall of Czar Nikolai Romanov II, and how the lives of the Russian people were dramatically changed during this time.

See, we’re all nerds at heart when it comes to history!

Now… it’s your turn!

It’s the survey of the day!

What’s your history “thing”?

Talk to me in the comments!

  1. As someone who majored in Russian history in college, I like your answer! At different times in my life I’ve been interested in different things. The Civil War and WWII are both endlessly fascinating, unlike WWI, which is mostly just depressing. Right now, with my blog, I research a lot of different things. If I had to pick a favorite–if you insist–it would probably be the women’s movement in the 19th century.

    1. That’s amazing, I would totally major or minor in Russian history if I found a school that offered it! I can’t even find a college around here that offers Russian language, let alone anything else. Of course, all of your picks are interesting though. Especially the women’s movement… I havent even thought of researching that before! Gonna have to check out some books on it now though.
