Now, I know it’s kind of an odd hour to be up and posting… but, you know, I do my best work after midnight, so whether you’re a late-nighter like me and get to see this before you go to bed, or you’re the complete opposite and wake up before 2 pm to read all the blog feeds, I think you can get some good creative inspiration at any time of the day (/night).
So, I turned to Google for some inspiration quotes either from or about authors and artists… and I came up with a short list that I want to share with y’all!
Let’s see what we’ve got here.
“A blank piece of paper is God’s way of telling us how hard it is to be God.”
– Sidney Sheldon
"The work never matches the dream of perfection the artist has to start with."
– William Faulkner
“There is no greater agony than bearing an untold story inside you.”
—Maya Angelou
It is not so much where my motivation comes from but rather how it manages to survive.
Louise Bourgeois
“Poetry creates the myth, the prose writer draws its portrait.”
– Jean-Paul Sartre
“Don’t think about making art, just get it done. Let everyone else decide if it’s good or bad, whether they love it or hate it. While they are deciding, make even more art.”
– Andy Warhol
The worst enemy to creativity is self-doubt.
Sylvia Plath
"A word is dead
When it is said,
Some say.
I say it just begins
to live that day."
– Emily Dickinson
“Finishing a book is just like you took a child out in the back yard and shot it.”
– Truman Capote
When I say artist I mean the man who is building things… some with a brush – some with a shovel – some choose a pen.
Jackson Pollock
Now, who feels inspired?
And, if you’ve seen/heard/read more than one of these quotes before… well, sorry, but you know how scary it can be to get past page 1 on Google searches.
I think I want to save this list somewhere and refer back to it when I need that extra push of motivation… especially seeing how my, ahem, next novel is soon to be wrapped-up…
Have a super inspiring day everyone, and let me know what your favorite quote from this list is!
